For my Golf Course Review of the Corballis Golf Club I thought was a well run public course located near Donabate, nestled in rolling sand dunes and a typical links course. It is fairly busy so it is advised to turn up with time to spare as rushing straight to the first is not recommended when you are a high handicapper such as myself. The first is a sneaky hole, nice and straightforward, short with a big green, and belies the horrors in store! Corballis is not a long course but boy do you want to be able to hit straight, the fairways are tight and the rough, i.e. marram grass on the dunes, is murderous. Some of the holes slightly more away from the sea allow you to let rip a little, but smart play and straight hitting is the order of the day. When you add in the breeze, which was gale force the last time I played, you have a tough test of golf. My favourite hole is a par 3 where the tee box in on top of what feels like a gigantic dune and the green looks like a postage stamp. My 5 wood sailed out into the gale and miraculously ended up around 15 feet from the hole. I three putted. Legend has it that Bernhard Langer used to practice there, I dont know what challenge the course presented to Herr Langer but for me, it was a teeth gritted experience at times. That being said, I think it says more about my game than the course, but be warned, this is a stern test for most golfers.

Pros - good condition, good value. Good challenge.
Cons - take a dustbin bag full of balls with you if the wind blows.
