For my Golf Course Review of the Scarke Golf Course 18-holes Having driven past the course many many times I had been wanting to play it for years, sadly due to family committments, golf has been off the menu for 6 years, however, with a spare half day, I decided to give it a lash and rocked up on a friday morning at around ten. Despite my clubs suffering from rust, I lashed off a gentle 35 balls on the driving range and finding the small club house closed, asked a gentleman on the car park what the form was. "just tee off and pay at the end" he said. The lack fo a score card and course map added to the blustery wind added to the challenge. Make no bones about it, I am a 28 handicapper, and found the course longish despite (thank goodness) the fact I was striking the ball well. There is quite a lot of dead ground concealing water hazards, but little rough, so wayward hitters need not fear too much. Daisys on the fairway were a nuisance for ball location given the amount of blind shots that had to be played, and I managed to play 18 without finding sand. I was allowed to play through a 3 ball and played the 18 in around 2 and a half hours. The greens were fine, suffering slightly from unrepaired pitchmarks, but ok never the less. The last 18 I played 3 years ago was on a windy day at Corbalis which is a brutal test for the high handicapper but Scarke is thoroughly recommended for golfers like me, intermediate to high handicappers that enjoy a low pressure round, without dozens of lost balls! I hope to return there soon!
